Does that mean its not showing up in the wireless icon thingy (bottom right) ?

How new is your hardware? I had some problems with the newest intel sandybridge chips - mint wouldn't recognise the integrated wireless card for a long time.

Also, is it just your network that doesn't work, or all wireless networks?

Also, are all your drivers up-to-date etc?

G'day @ihitmyhead and welcome to Linux Mint.

To try to understand the capabilities of your system, @istrandi is asking you for the output of a Terminal Command. It is easy to do.

Open MintMenu, click on Terminal and then enter lspci at the command prompt. Then just copy and paste the result back to here.

Maybe a daft question - but is your router set up to broadcast its SSID name?

I have mine set up not to - and so I have to select 'Connect to Hidden Wireless Network' during set-up of wireless networking.

Well... at least its not sandy bridge, so that eliminates a few problems that I might think of.

To fix the ethernet thing, try right clicking on the panel, then selecting add new items, then readding it.

Anyway, if anyone is familiar with the

Code: Select all

 Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)
then that is probably the problem; its the network controllers fault I think. Hmm... try redownloading the drivers from here:

Running a google search against your card seems to indicate that linux has a lot of problems with it.

Could try a couple of fixes listed at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1591883

BTW, I couldn't find your driver either...

The driver is linked to from the link I posted earlier which is a full how-to for Broadcom BCM43XX chipsets.
