I reloaded Linux Mint 8 and now can't upgrade it or download software from the software manager. I'm getting error messages like:
Some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s).Do you want to continue, ignoring these packages?
-or-
W: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... 2_i386.deb
404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.40 80]
How can I fix this? And does this have anything to do with the fact that I updated my computer a couple days ago? I thought I could fix any problems by reloading the system, but it's not working. I'm a newbie -- please provide point by point instructions. Much appreciated!

The bad news . . Mint 8 has been obsolete since April. Ubuntu has probably taken down those repositories.
