[Solved] Messed up existing users -- need help to restore

Post by BobSongs » Mon Nov 28, 2011 2:32 pm

Hey all, quick question:

Just installed Linux Mint 12 on my PC. I've got 7 accounts under Linux.

Used: System Settings > User Accounts to create each user. But one user's /home name is a bit different from her screen name. When I input hers, I took the wrong name. I deleted that account, started again, took the right name and carried on.

However, every user created after this one cannot log in. I believe it is linked to the account numbers (1001, 1002, etc.). I want to change these so each user can log in. However the newest User Accounts doesn't have this option. Or it may simply be that the user isn't pointing to his/her /home folder accurately.

Any tips on how I can regain users?

Found the solution...

Seems that account's .Xauthority was messed up. Renamed it .Xauthority-messedup and started the account, works perfectly.

Thanks all!
