Post by zulfikar »

Hi All,

First I am new here but not new to Linux as used to setup qmail / IPsec servers.

Mint 12 is real cool but I am having a problem, I have installed all updates , my desktop almost disappears and I need to press ctrl-alt-backspace and login again.

Sometimes the desktop gets corrupted. I have the ATI drivers installed.

any help shall be appreciated.

My specs :

Athlon X3 445
M4a78lt-m le
HD 5450
4 GB

Please uninstall the graphics driver, and get the Catalyst 11.11 driver from AMD's website if you really need a driver.

It doesn't matter whether you use the CD or DVD version of Mint. Both are having problems with the AMD graphics driver.

If even Catalyst 11.11 works bad, then you have no choice to run without driver. AMD have promised that the 12.1 driver will work better with the Gnome 3 desktop.

I can play videos well on the catalyst drivers no issues only that sometimes the desktop disappears or after closing e.g. VLC the screen looks like a TV with no signal.

I will migrate to the older Catalyst and report back.

Please don't migrate to older Catalyst. That works even worse with Gnome 3. The top panel will start looking like a rainbow and the text will be blurred.

Ok, I am sticking to 11.11, by the way I don't know if it's just my imagination but I am finding Mint a bit heavy and slow compared to Ubuntu.
