Can't use many softwares

I'm new to Linux Mint.

Whatever I do, I get a grey transparent border at the bottom of my screen. I can not click anywhere within region, making it impossible to use many softwares (see Screen shot).

How do I get ride of this *$@)è%§ ? It comes right from the Linux Mint Install, apparently.

You cannot run compiz --replace on Mint 12.

Please press Alt-F2, type r and press Enter. Then it should disappear. Or logout and back in. Or reboot your computer.

This indeed happens sometimes on Gnome Shell, but not very often. I've had it once since I installed Mint 12 RC.

I guess it's obvious to everyone (except me) what version of LM he is running from the Screenie.

Actually the top bar is clearly Gnome 3. But if you haven't seen Mint 12 yet you of course might not recognize it.

It is Linux Mint 12. BTW I got this problem after a fresh install, when I was doing an apt-get update.

But that works now - thank you.

Isn't this problem solved after just rebooting?

I also got this once but the next time it was gone.
