[solved] no webcam in skype, and general guide not working.

Post by jemt »

Hello!

First I'm new at Mint, and is running mint-11 at the moment.
second, I hope this is the right place for this topic in the forum.

My problem:
I'm using skype (installed from the program library) and everything works just great.
But I can't use my camera in Skype.

My try to fix the problem:
I have installed cheese, and it works.
Then I followed this guide (http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/219) whit no success.
see the box below -->

Code: Select all

anders@hemma ~ $ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

Plz, tell me if I can give more info.

/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so
Ever bothered to look for this file? There's an application "Search for files ..." :wink:
On my (virtual 386) LM 12 it's in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l
Thinkpad X220 with Samsung SSD running Xubuntu 13.04
I'm getting old gladly -- I don't like to die young ...

um... it do was that easy. :oops:
The right string should be: /usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so

Now it works. Thank you! :D

But...
My script won't work.
Maybe it's the path that is wrong here to?

This command works:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype
And I have this file in this directory:
/usr/local/bin/skype
Whit this inside:
#!/bin/bash
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype

Then I typed sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/skype in the terminal.
But I don't understand how I'll make my shortcut in the menu run the working commando?

As for now, I have to run it in the terminal...

I find an solution.

It was just to right-click on the Skype-icon in the menu, and change the adress to the new bash-file.

Glad it was this easy, and I have learned alot...
