Login Screen not possible

Login Screen not possible

Hello ....
I installed Mint4 3 Days ago and i was glad because it worked mostly...
today i tryed to connect to a WLAN of a friend, but without any success...
then i bootet Vista and some minutes later Mint again....
The loginscreen appeared an i entered my userlogin and PW...BUT *äääähhhhttt* no login
i thout am i stupid? and tryed again several times tryed different logins PWs etc.
then i switched to shell F1 and entered as root - no problem
then i loged out and entered with the normal user on shell - no problem
I tryed it on F7 GNOMEscreen again - but no login
WHY? why can't i log in?
i am very angry now because there is no casualty between my actions and this error...
Please give me some advice...

And it's no use to try different user names and passwords - there is only one combination....
If you do a cold boot?
