Mobile Phone MicroSD Reader

Postby ronandiver » Sat Jan 21, 2012 6:07 pm

Hello

Linux Mint 11 i've got...

Need a wee bit of help...bought a cheap phone for my son...however downloading music onto it has been a bit of a problem.
I've put the microsd card into the phone but when connecting phone to PC,it doesn't recognise it.

I've been told i need a reader...how do these work...and do i need a specific one that works for LInux ??

Please advise :? :?

You need to make sure the phone is in mass storage mode. You shouldn't need a card reader but if you get one any should work.

Bought it cheap for my wee son who just wants it for photos & music....not as a phone !!!

Read reviews (after,of course) that downloading was a pain...that's why it only cost £10 !!

Am i right in saying that it has to be a linux compatible one....or any would do ????

Any OS, linux or not, should see the card as an external drive when connected by USB, but the phone has to be set in the right mode. There is no such thing as a linux compatible card reader, it is just a hardware interface.

You should be able to do it from the phone. There should be a usb setting somewhere. You'll need to enable that.

If you are unable to find one(the setting can be in rather obscure places sometimes), you will need to get a USB SD card reader. I've only ever had one but it worked right out of the package(which didn't even mention Linux). So from that experience I think they don't need to be explicitly Linux compatible.
