Auto detect audio device in mint 12

Post by helgatheviking » Sat Mar 03, 2012 7:05 pm

I just sorted out the solution to my HP dv7 laptop speakers and headphones playing at the same time,

by adding:
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv5 enable_msi=1

to:
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

so now I am moving on to trying to fix it so that I don't have to manually switch between anything when I plug in my USB (logitech speakers. When I plug them in, they should 'just play' without the need to switch to them via the audio settings. Is there a way to set a default? or an order?

should go something like
HDMI
USB
internal

and when headphones are in they trump all.

helgatheviking...

...well? Have you come up with a script? a fix? a neat solution? I would love to know!
