Linux panic associated with browsing

Hi, a few days into this...
I joke that my wife just has to look at a computer and it crashes... but seriously, I'm trying to convert her from WinXP to Mint and now I'm getting a kernel panic that seems to be associated with viewing slightly more sophistcated web content, maybe java or flash, using Firefox 11 on Mint 12, Gnome 3 desktop (because the default desktop seems very, very slow). Otherwise, browsing uncomplicated things like this forum work fine.
I'm not a sysadmin, but I've looked in the obvious logs like kern.log, dmesg and there's nothing other than my rather mouthy wifi card which I have installed as my own instructions here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 56#p562202.

Some experiments have shown that it is network traffic related, so almost certainly something to do with the drivers I compiled.
I'll continue elsewhere on these forums.
