How to filter profanity with iptables.

Post by Sccoupe »

I want to setup a gateway just for the kids computers using mint linux. With the understanding that iptables has a string match module, can it be used to drop all packets containing profanity? Lets say I wanted to filter all plain text "f-bombs" from all protocols, ports, ip's, inbound and outbound. How do I go about doing this and is it possible? I want to cover websites and chat of all kinds that isnt encrypted.

Thanks all.

You can blacklist websites with Domain Blocker but it can't filter the text in the page. A webfilter from your ISP is probably easier (though it usually costs some money; also there are lots of ISP's which don't offer web filtering service).

You could also use something that might help you configure IPTABLES to your needs more easily
--but it would require some research..
