what to get to make mint from xubuntu???

Post by psycosmyth »

I have to say that I fell for Bianca, but my love is not full-filled. I installed it on my off-line desktop with no problems and it's perfect! BUT, my laptop is lacking the RAM to get the live disk up in less than a day:( My option here is to install KorX ubuntu and add the repositories from mint. This is complex but what packages should I get? Where is the Mint menu etc......
I have no other way? right? Can I use the live disk as a system disk, as I have done with Ubuntu?(had Ubuntu and used the Kubuntu disk to install KDE stuff)
Sorry if this is lame but I could use some help.

You can't transform (K)(X)Ubuntu into Mint... but you can install the stuff you like in Mint on top of (K)(X)Ubuntu.

- Add the bianca repository.
- to get the menu install mintmenu
- to get other stuff, don't hesitate to ask
- to have a look at what's in there browse http://www.linuxmint.com/repository/

You can install mintartwork-bianca, gtk2-engines-murrine and usplash-theme-bianca, then reboot (I think the engine needs that.. I'm not sure). Then change the theme to Bianca-Blue, the login theme to Bianca Blue, and look at "Upgrade to Bianca" on the wiki to see how to change the usplash and gnome splash screens.

To get mintMenu, install mintmenu then right click the panel and choose "Add to panel", then select the Linux Mint Menu applet.

I am exhausted!
I settled for the main menu, it's like Xfce's. I hacked all of Xubuntu out, I added a few Debian themes, I have most of the codecs I want and it's minty fresh.
I now need a name for it, even though the Bianca bootsplash says, well Bianca.

Clem, I could never top the original!
