Mint 17.2 KDE and Xfce have entered RC testing phase

Post by xenopeek » Thu Jul 09, 2015 4:16 pm

Whoo! For those that are eagerly awaiting news about Mint 17.2 KDE and Xfce editions, QA testing on the new ISOs has started earlier today. Track progress here: http://community.linuxmint.com/iso

Usually two or three days after QA testing is completed the new ISO will be available from all outlets as RC (release candidate; for public testing before final release). Depending on how many issues are found I think we can expect final release around end of this month. After the final release the Update Manager will enable the option in its menu for you to upgrade from Linux Mint 17 or 17.1 to 17.2.

Update: the RCs are available today!

Linux Mint 17.2 “Rafaela” KDE RC released!
Linux Mint 17.2 “Rafaela” Xfce RC released!

Usually this will be published together with the release of the RC.

Aside from the obvious (Mint improvements already shared on 17.2 Cinnamon and MATE releases), likely an upgrade to newer KDE and Xfce releases.

Please say we still will be using KDE 4.x
KDE 5.x is not ready yet for mainstream.

I'm not saying anything :) I honestly don't know and haven't kept up with how the exploration of KDE 5 went for the Linux Mint developers (it was noted on the roadmap that they would explore it for 17.2).

The Cinnamon 17.2 updates went on my Dell desktops without issue. Now my Lenovo netbook needs to feel the newness. I await XFCE 17.2 with bated breath. :D

Some OS X and WinXP too; I'm multi-platform like that.

Are you on the QA testing team? Then you have a download link. If you aren't, then you wait for the RC release to get a download.
There is no public download before QA testing team has tested the ISO successfully.

Xfce has been approved for RC release so we can expect that over next few days I expect. KDE hasn't been approved and will go in for another round of QA testing after fixing the issues found.

Are you on the QA testing team?
No, member of the forum and community, would join the testing team if I knew how. I thought that last time the downloads were on the http://community.linuxmint.com site before being announced.

Worth the wait! :D

87.93% tested and no issues yet. Looking good for 17.2 KDE-64.

Excuse me, but there is a roadmap for the release of the 17.2 kde? I had heard at the end of the month... Today is possible?

And if I install the rc, when the 17.2 stable will released, can I upgrade from rc to stable? Thanks in advance!

Normally there is nothing you need to do except apply level 1-3 upgrades with Update Manager to upgrade from RC to stable. It will be covered in the release notes of the final release if anything extra needs to be done.
