Firefox showing "CRASH" on about every other site ?

Post by wpshooter »

Lately, Firefox is showing that it "CRASHED" when exiting the browser on about 1/2 of the sites I go to.

Why is this ?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, what is open H264 video codec by Cisco and how and why is it a plugin on Firefox on my Linux Mint O/S computer (I ASSURE YOU, THAT I DID NOT PUT IT THERE OR AT LEAST NOT INTENTIONALLY) ?

Is this possibly why Firefox is almost constantly crashing ? It seems to be because when I have disabled this addon, Firefox does not crash and then when I re-enable it the browser resumes crashing.

I stand corrected, tried it again and turning this off, did not prevent the browser crash message from being displayed.

Anyone have any idea as to what is causing almost constant display of browser crashed message ?

Thanks.

Hi. have a look at this link I found while Googling:

https://gigaom.com/2014/10/14/h-264-sup ... wont-play/

It just gives you an idea as to why it was installed. Not for reasons to explain it crashing Firefox

Better link here actually > http://andreasgal.com/2014/10/14/openh2 ... n-firefox/

As long as the Hello function is not needed, you don't need the plugin.

Anyway the crashes in relation with the plugin is strange. The plugin exists since FF 33.

To analyze the problem do this:
Close FF.
Open your file-manager and make hidden files visible.
Rename the folder .mozilla to .mozilla.bck
Start FF, this will create automatically a new FF-profile.
Check.

To get back to your old profile:
Close FF.
Delete the new folder .mozilla
Rename the folder .mozila.bck back to .mozilla
Start FF. Done.

Could it simply be that there are that many websites which are not properly written to run correctly under Firefox, i.e. it is still an IE only world ?

I ask that because there are certain websites which I normally use on an almost daily basis which do NOT ever cause the crash message to be displayed, for example, with gunbroker.com (and several others), I never get the crash message.

Thanks.

Nothing is impossible, especially not on websites, which I don't know. But it is nowadays, where IE is far from being the mostly used browser, more than unlikely.

I told you how to find out.

I found the cause of the problem.

Seems that for some reason when I leave the video driver (as installed by O/S Mint) which is (xserver-xorg-video-nouveau) in place/use, I have the problems with getting the Firefox browser crash problem when I exit many (but not all) websites.

But just as soon as I switched the video driver to the video driver 304 (which is listed as recommended), I no longer get the problem of the crash reports when exiting websites, however, now I get strange / LARGE font displayed messages during bootup and shutdown. Don't seem to harm anything just looks like cra_.

Is there a way I can use the RECOMMENDED video driver and not get these large font messages during bootup and shutdown ?

Thanks.
