Logo in the wallpaper

Post by minomic » Sat Oct 10, 2015 1:45 pm

Hi guys,
I'm using Mint 17.2 Raphaela and I found that one of the wallpapers presents the logo that you can find here. What is that symbol over the usual LM logo? Does it have a particular meaning? I tried to search but couldn't find any info. Thanks!

If I had to guess, it's a 1 and a 0--binary digits. The very base of any computer language (binary opcode) can be expressed as 1s and 0s (the processor sees them as "on" and "off", respectively.)

Hi, thanks I know what binary code is. It's just that I didn't think about that... And still it's seems quite a weird choice, doesn't it? :D

I don't think so. I mean, it's not so "artsy" as, say, a rainbow or a waterfall, but it does have a geeky appeal--I like it.

Yes I like it too! Thanks for the explanation about the meaning. :D

It's simply the default wallpaper in Mint 10.

But, but... That's nowhere near as interesting!

You're right: your "binary interpretation" was much more "romantic"! A question still remains: why should there be the Mint 10 wallpaper in the 17.2 version? Actually it's in the "retro" section but it seems weird nevertheless... :D
Now even if I like it, I think I will change it: you can't drive a new car with an old body, right?

New features in Linux Mint 17.2 MATE - Artwork improvements:
All the backgrounds from Linux Mint "Maya", "Nadia", "Olivia", "Petra", "Qiana" and "Rebecca" are also present, as well as a nostalgic selection of the best backgrounds from the early days of Linux Mint.

Now everything is clear. Thank you!
