How to save home when upgrading

This contribution, although well written, is about a particular problem most likely not experienced by most users.
Therefore I've removed the link from the community portal.
I believe the page remains in the wiki, and I have a backup. If you feel I'm in error you are welcome to put it back under Install and boot.

Sorry, but I find that "hint" given there sort of silly .... It's absolutely not necessary to format your "/home" partition, it will be enough if you just wipe the settings, e.g. from the ~/.gnome* and ~/.kde and maybe ~/.config folders ... Besides: If you make a backup copy of /home and then format the relevant partition, and then put everything back again ... what's the point??? You have all the files and settings back again. As I said: this is silly.

Agreed - there is also a comment in the discussion area to that effect, with some hints on what might have gone wrong. I also want to be polite
