Wrong name on Mint Menu.
Just upgraded to 17.3 Mint Mate and everything appears fine except for a couple of little problems. The grub menu hasn't updated to to the new installation - it still says version 17.2 - which is not a big problem and something I can fix myself. The other problem is a bit more baffling. When I click on the menu button, and the menu pops up, at the top of it it say mintMenu.py. I'm fairly sure it shouldn't have the name of the python file for the MintMenu written across the top of the menu.
I guess there's a file somewhere that needs to be renamed but I'm not sure where it is, or if the problem is caused by some other issue. Any help fixing the problem is much appreciated.

Can you show a screenshot?
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

Here's a screenshot of the problem.

Re: Wrong name on Mint Menu.
I can reproduce it with some window border themes: BlackMATE, DustBlue, GreenLaguna, Simple, Spidey, Splint...
In other words, looks like a theme issue.

Re: Wrong name on Mint Menu.
Thanks, Monsta for the info, it is a theme issue. I have a theme called vista grey that I use for window borders, if I change it to some other theme then the writing at the top of the menu goes away. I will have to have a look at the themes and see if there's a way to keep vista grey but also solve the name problem, if not I will have to change the theme.

This is actually mentioned in http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2955 ("Additional info" section).caz wrote:The grub menu hasn't updated to to the new installation - it still says version 17.2 - which is not a big problem and something I can fix myself.
Re: Wrong name on Mint Menu.
Thanks, Cosmo. I should have mentioned this myself. I will be more considerate next time.Cosmo. wrote:Open a terminal and entercaz wrote:The grub menu hasn't updated to to the new installation - it still says version 17.2 - which is not a big problem and something I can fix myself.Done.Code: Select all

Cheers. I must remember to pay more attention to announcements.Monsta wrote:This is actually mentioned in http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2955 ("Additional info" section).caz wrote:The grub menu hasn't updated to to the new installation - it still says version 17.2 - which is not a big problem and something I can fix myself.

Re: Wrong name on Mint Menu.
I have the "mintMenu.py" problem too after the otherwise successful upgrade.
Re: Wrong name on Mint Menu.
It should get a bit better in 5.6.6. The titlebar will still be there with the mentioned window border themes (it's their issue), but it won't contain the process name anymore.
Re: Wrong name on Mint Menu.
Thanks for the info, Monsta. I noticed that the writing on the Menu titlebar has now gone, which is cool.
