Linux Foundation offers Free SysAdmin Tutorial

Post by jimallyn »

Whether you're looking to prep for the Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) exam or just looking for some bite-sized ebook tutorials to help you get more familiar with Linux, this free tutorial series is for you.

We'll walk you through each topic covered in the LFCS exam, and each ebook includes a short description, instruction on the topic, a tutorial to let you test what you've learned, and an answer key to help you check your work.

This series will teach you:

How to use a text editor at the command line to create and modify files
How to manipulate and manage the filesystem of your Linux machine
How to actually administer a local Linux system including managing users, permissions, backups, and more.
How to secure and protect your Linux machine from viruses, hackers, and other security risks.
And much, much more!
This series is comprised of 24 individual tutorial ebooks, one of which will be emailed to you each week. The series is absolutely free, with no purchase of any Linux Foundation product required (although subscribers to the series will also receive special discounts for our training products!) So what are you waiting for?

Yes, it is trustworthy and legit. You can read about the Linux Foundation on wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Foundation

Or just wander around their website:

I probably should have mentioned that Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, works for the Linux Foundation.

If it's good enough for Linus, it's good enough for me.

Thanks a lot for providing additional information, jimallyn.

I've signed up for the course a couple of hours ago and I was told that a download link had been sent to my e mail address, but so far I haven't received anything.

Well, maybe they need to validate my registration first to ensure it's legit and not made by a bot...

Didn't you make a mistake when you registered? I received the email immediately. This said, my mail was already know by the lf.

Nope, I'm sure the email address was correct. Just tried it again, still nothing. :(

I got mine right away, too. Maybe go back and go through the whole signup process again?

It worked with the second email address... This is very strange...
Or maybe it is because I used Chrome now instead of Firefox?

Anyway, I've received the first part of the tutorial ("Editing text files on the command line"). It's rather concise but contains useful information. :)

Maybe, if I click the link in Firefox (addons HTTPSeverywhere and uBlock) I go to a SalesForce site, with Chromium it works good.

I gave them my email and got the link but Firefox was unwilling to connect me to storage.pardot.com - seems pardot is a tracker. I cancelled the Ghostery block on pardot and downloaded the first tutorial, and it was possibly the shortest tutorial I've ever seen. I'm not sure what the Linux Foundation is playing at.

It's a 24 part tutorial. You will receive a link to a part of it every week for 24 weeks.

From the original post:

Jimallyn your original information was accurate and complete, and news of free tutorials is always welcome. I'm sorry that the word "bitesize" didn't strike me forcibly enough at the first time of reading - possibly the word "free" was blinding me at the time.
I'm just not impressed by the way the Linux Foundation appears to be hiding from the user the fact that these bite-size tutorials are arriving by means of an advertising company specialising in tracking software - something I wouldn't have known without Ghostery's warning. If they have nothing to hide why hide it?
