There is one problem you need to take care of - get rid of the medibuntu line.
Instructions are here - http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2469

yeah I did that, and I removed it from the authenticated list in the the software sources as well, rebooted and tried again and I still have the same updates available,

don't know if this is relevant to the issue but when I restarted my pc it failed to reboot giving me this error "could not write bytes: broken pipe modem-manager [760]: <info> caught signal 15, shutdown... " I had no choice but to hard kill it

Which? What is the error message exactly?

it's been a few day's now since reinstalling and everything is still running smooth so I guess it really is the updates that was messing up mint :?

well this is the longest time Ive ran mint without having to reinstall it, I still cant get it to update, the only updates I can get are

libpng.12-dev
unattended-upgrades
libpng12-0

each time I refresh the update manager it says

Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/maya/Release.gpg Could not connect to packages.linuxmint.com:80 (68.235.39.11). - connect (110: Connection timed out) [IP: 68.235.39.11 80]

I have level 1-3 updates enabled

in (software sources) under (linux mint software) I have (main packages (main) checked

in (software sources) under (other software) I have checked the following
ubuntu 12,04 "precise pangolin",
recommended updates
important security updates
canonical partners
http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10/ubuntu precise main
http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10/ubuntu precise main (source code)

how is mint maya 13 a (LTS) I just dont get it,
and I just installed mint maya on my old dell the other day and tried to get it to update, and it failed on that machine as well

I have Mint 13 installed on a laptop.
In (software sources) under (linux mint software) I have Main, Upstream, and Imported checked
In (software sources) under (other software) I have checked the following
ubuntu 12,04 "precise pangolin",
Non-free drivers
recommended updates

I do NOT have the xubuntu-dev checked
NO - http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10/ubuntu precise main
NO - http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10/ubuntu precise main (source code)
As a matter of fact, if you enter http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10/ubuntu in your browser, you will find that it does not exist.
The same thing applies to the i18n links you have posted

http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/maya/main/i18n/ does not exist.

When I enter sudo apt-get update in a terminal, I get no errors.
And I get no reference to http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/maya/main/i18n/

When you open the Update Manager, be sure to click "Select All" before updating. Or, you can manually click on each one to test, if you want to.
