Mint Hack Donation thread!

Post by Jedinovice »

As I stated on the Blog during The Great Hack, Mint Linux and Clem and Co, have taken quite a serious hit with this hack and the Mint team need help to get back on their feet, both financially and in terms of PR.

I would like the next headlines on Mint to be "Linux Mint community show faith in distro with record number of donations."

I suggest that we all donate something - anything - to the Mint team. I have donated just $10. It's not a lot but it is something! This not just about money. Yes, Clem and co. are going to need funds to pay for server space, hiring of specialist staff and I don't know what. They also will need a vacation after this.

But it's more than financial. The psychological impact of such an attack is great and all sorts of double guessing and self doubt will be kicking in - if not now, then soon. Clem needs to feel our support and our faith in him at this time. Its not so much about the financial amount as the number of donators. Lots of small donations are A Good Thing(TM) right now.

Also, after the dreadful news coverage, the Mint users are going to have to underscore their faith in the distro and the team with legal tender.

So - donate today and, I suggest, put a note here to say you have done so. That way Clem and the Mint community can SEE the support. (Of course, no need to disclose amount. I have done just to show how little can do. Just let us know you have donated.) Let's show the dev team we have their backs! ['cause if they ever needed us it's now!]

That's the stuff guys!

As I say, people are not obligated to state amount donated. This is more to let Clem and the world know who is behind them - with cash!

Good thread.
I sent my support several days ago.
I can't imagine the stresses and difficulties involved in re-constructing the damaged systems. Donations are the least we can do.

I sent my donation, and yes, I'm staying with Mint too. I like it too much to let go of it so easily, and those crackers can suck my toes!

Yes, all of us standing together, shoulder to shoulder, asking; "Isn't it a bit cramped in here?"

There we go - done in Euros via Paypal. Thanks for the support and hard work, team.

I was wondering... is there a simple way to set up recurring donations via sites like Patreon or JustGiving?

EDIT : I have just found the Mint Sponsors page but the Community Sponsor level starts at $20 a month which is outside my means at the moment. I will just be disciplined and diarise a reminder each quarter to click the Donate button.

Count me in for sure! I owe my freedom from Windows to Linux Mint! I have donated $20. I have tried many other distros and I always come back to Linux Mint. It just works!

Planning to donate $25USD end of March.
The fact that Mint got hacked means 2 things to me:
1) Mint has grown so much and made such an impact in the world that it is now considered to be a target worthy of professional hacking. It is now officially a world-class player, even though in our experience it has been such for a long time already.
2) Mint needs to go on from here with renewed commitment to even stronger development.

Good job, Mint guys. It's not every distro that is deemed worthy of the trouble of serious hacking. :D

You really know what you've got when it's gone. I've been lost the last few days of no forum to follow. If my donation helps to keep Mint going it will be money well spent.
Thankyou to Clem and all his little elves. I have been so impressed by Clem's postings on the blog over the last few days, up to his arse in alligators, but still able to find the time to post updates and stay civil to posters who ask the question that has already been answered. I take my hat off to you Clem.
Go Steady, but keep going
