Epson Perfection V37 USB scanner not recognized (Solved!)

Post by Destry »

Greetings~
I followed another thread here viewtopic.php?f=51&t=217894&p=1143004&h ... r#p1143004 and followed the install procedures listed for my model. A link led me to this.. http://support.epson.net/linux/en/image ... linux_mint I cannot get the scanner to be recognized when the USB cable is plugged in.

My Desktop info is in my signature below.

Any suggestions?

Did you install the scanner drivers appropriate for your system (32 bit or 64 bit)?

Have you tried a different USB slot?

My Epson MFCs work both in USB and Wi-Fi.

The drivers are not model specific.

Yes, I tried all my USB ports 2.0 and 3.0. I am using 64 bit KDE.
My USB ports work fine with other devices and printers.

I tried Konsole command line install and it showed the installation was successful. I have a new "Image Scan" selection under graphics in my menu.

Code: Select all

 6.1.1. Auto Installation in script

Please run the script (install.sh) included in the downloaded package from terminal.
# ./install.sh

I also extracted the .tar.gz file, right clicked in the "install.sh" file then selected Actions/Run in Konsole with no errors shown. This is a c/p of the complete output in Konsole.

I think that you have the wrong file.

Go to this site:

http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... FromResult

type "Perfection V37" (without the quotation marks) into the model field, select Linux from the operating system field and then click the magnifier.
That will get you "iscan-perfection-v370-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb.tar.gz".

I am not familiar with KDE but the procedure to unzip and unpack should provide the same result as it does in Cinnamon.

If you do not want to install the bundle, you can take the file in data and install with a double click followed by the file in core.

I would think that you will have to remove what you had installed previously.

Being a green horn on Linux is definitely an experience... This will be the first time un installing something like this. I checked the software manager and did not see the previous epson software installed. Gotta figure out how... :|

Hope this works...

Code: Select all

I was able to get it removed via the synaptic software manager.
Then ran the installer and here are the results:

Code: Select all

iscan-perfection-v370-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb # ./install.sh
(Reading database ... 186399 files and directories currently installed.)

Preparing to unpack .../iscan-plugin-perfection-v370_1.0.0-2_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking iscan-plugin-perfection-v370 (1.0.0-2) over (1.0.0-2) ...
Setting up iscan-data (1.36.0-1) ...
Setting up iscan (2.30.1-1~usb0.1.ltdl7) ...
Processing triggers for desktop-file-utils (0.22-1ubuntu1) ...

Processing triggers for udev (204-5ubuntu20.15linuxmint1) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-0ubuntu6.7) ...
Now I get this:

Code: Select all

Could not send command to scanner.
Check the scanner's status.
Scanner is powered up and shows in the list of USB devices.

Interesting... I tried Xsane Image Scanning Program that was part of the original install of Mint and it worked! I can now scan documents and images!

Thankyou for the assistance Kyphi

Hi

I had the same problem. Everything worked in Mint17 when I upgraded the Epson scanner was not detected.

When you download the the latest Epson driver software you get "Plugin iscan-network-nt_1.1.1-1_amd64.deb" which going by the title is for network or wifi scanners.

My scanner is usb.

Fortunately I have another computer still running Mint 17. I copied from that computer the old Epson diver plugin "iscan-plugin-perfection-v370_1.0.0-2_amd64.deb"
and everything works, the Epson software, simple scan and Xsane.

Unfortunately the Epson download site offers no option other than to download the network plugin. I don't know where you can find and download the old plugin

Re: Epson Perfection V37 USB scanner now has install script

Post by pdc_2 »

sorry to hear of your troubles alanek;

if I go to the Epson download page http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... ch/?OSC=LX and enter V37, it takes me to screenshot V37_1

when I click to Download, it takes me to an ACCEPT and when I click that, it takes me to what I have called V37_2;

when I click on the top option: PACKAGE DOWNLOAD PAGE, it takes me to what I have called V37_3 and I downloaded the 64bit debian package option, which is iscan-perfection-v370-bundle-1.0.1.x64.deb.tar.gz

when I look inside that, there is an install.sh script which most would recommend as the way to get things going; ........... so ........... if one clicked to downloaded the above package, and elected to SAVE it to one's DOWNLOADS folder, then the commands from a terminal would be
cd Downloads
tar -zxvf iscan-perfection-v370-bundle-1.0.1.x64.deb.tar.gz
cd iscan-perfection-v370-bundle-1.0.1.x64.deb
sudo ./install.sh
and that should run the install script in the terminal, but if one keeps watch as the install script may ask questions of you; for anyone wondering how to run the above commands; one needs to copy them; paste them into a terminal, and hit the ENTER key; one command at a time

I did this for the Epson Perfection 2590, GT-F520/GT-F570 and I get a persistent ''failed to open device 'snapscan:libusb:001:009':Invalid argument." from iscan. Perhaps anyone recognize what this means and what to do about it? Thank you!

pi2r2, you would be much better off to start your own thread. This one is about a different model, and has also been marked Solved, so the people who can help you are unlikely to look here, and you are unable to get a solution in this thread.
