2 Questions.

What is new with this release?

and

Will LM6 KDE be able to upgrade to LM7 KDE when it is released?
Just more two questions:

- Will Mint 6 KDE 4 be based on 4.1.3 or Kde 4.2 beta 1?
- Kde 4.2 beta 2 and kde 4.2 final will be released soon. Will it be hassless to update kde?

Thanks and keep the good work ;)

I wonder if there's any way to make this CE fits in a 700 Mb CD...

unfortunately downloading over 1 Gb is too much for those who have slow internet connection... like me :-(

I doubt it. Mint 5 KDE came out on DVD-only, I wouldn't expect Mint 6 to be any different. The only way it could be done is to strip so much out of it that it would hardly be usable. Then you would have to doiwnload so much that you wouldn't have saved anything.

Stick with Mint Gnome. It's very usable (IMO).

Mint 6 is coming out tommorrow with the upgrade tool to enable you to upgrade from version 5 to 6.

Will a similar tool be make avaiable to upgrade from 5 to 6 with KDE Mint users?

thanks!

Hi,

If this upgrade tool will be available to Mint KDE CE users i can run the risk of upgrading
from 5 to 6. I am running Mint KDE CE 5 Elyssa.

If the upgrade fails i do a fresh install for Mint KDE CE 6 Felicia. I have my data
and files always backed up.

For the Gnome Main Edition i can't run the risk because i am running version 6 Felicia upgraded RC1 .
(Mint tools). So, i am waiting for the final version. (iso).

Note: i've heard somewhere that KDE version 4.2 (final) will be ready in January/2009 .

Cheers
Roberto

there will be no update tool for mint 5 kde to mint 6 kde as this is a change from KDE3 to KDE4.

so looks like all the technical problems are gone (excluding upstream bugs).
Now I am just doing some final layout and art related config, eg gfxgrub, usplash, ksplash, theme....

Not long now.

Any chance of an optional Mint green theme ( both splash and desktop) in the new release ? I started with MintKDE 3 and love the green themes - the blue just doesn't do it for me (just a personal thing). Please don't suggest using the main distribution - to say I'm not fond of Gnome would be a gross understatement :-)

Cheers, Paul.

....and the kicker panel? Green too, I hope? Dark green, Minty green?

Implementing KDE4 sounds like a pretty daunting task for the devs. So maybe heading over to kde-look and finding themes that you like might be easier:

I hope to upload the latest DEV iso for testing tonight.
It is really an artwork and layout change, the silly season slowed things up a bit.

Wait, so it's still KDE 3.5? Or is it KDE4?

KDE 4.2 should come by end of January, knowing it szhould be the equivalent of kde 3.5 application wise do you think it will be wise to put in the CE.

So the dev discussion on mint 6 KDE is to have at least KDE 4.2 beta before releasing.
other points are to simplify the look/art, less apps (1 of) and hopefully put amarok 2 in.

the wait continues...

I would like to see KDE 4.2 beta 2 in this Mint release. KDE 4.2 RC will be availiable approx. Jan 13th so this would be a good idea for a KDE Mint Beta as well for testing, and a Mint KDE final at the end of January when KDE 4.2 final will be ready. Changes from KDE 4.1 to 4.2 are tremendous and KDE 4.2 beta runs better than the "stable" KDE 4.1 (my personal experience of course). 8)

Happy New Year

You can already get those, they are available from Kubuntu PPAs.
