Kernel update no longer in Mint Update Manager?

Post by Duveltje »

I update my kernel by using theMints "Update Manager". Now I can't. The possibility has dissapeared or must be done in another way.
What I used to do:
1. I opened the Update Manager;
2. I selected the menu View;
3.I selected the submenu considering kernels;
4.I selected the menu the desired kernel and installed it.
Unfortunately in the menu View, there is no submenu about kernels. The following submenu's are available:
- Visible columns;
- Show descriptions;
- History of updates
- Information
See also the attachment.
Does anyone no something about this? How do you install a newer kernel installer? Did I do something stupid which caused the submenu in the menu view to dissapear? Do I miss something futile?
Ik use Mint 17.3 kernel 3.19.0-61-generic, the version of the Update Manager is 4.9.9.1.

Via terminal

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep linux-image
If you want to install a new kernel, you can do it using Synaptic or command line. Remember install linux-headers also.

Strange.... But why do you want a newer kernel at all? No need for that, if everything works well.

Open synaptic and check if mint-kernel-info is installed. It seams, as if - out of a strange reason - it is missing.

I did an overkill and by completely new installing Mint, than updated with the udate manager instead of an update by apt-get, then did post-install I always do. Then everything was okay again. A pity I didn't read the suggestion about mint-kernel-info earlier. It would be nice to see if that was the problem.
