Hello from (not so) sunny Scotland

Post by andyjreid »

Hello all,

Just wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Andy and I've been using Mint for about a month or so on a new smaller laptop I purchased.

Spent a bit of time looking at Distro's and decided that as this was my first foray into Linux Mint would suit me perfectly.

No questions or anything. Just wanted to say hi.

Hello, Andy. Great welcomes to the exceedingly great world of Mint. Plan to invest some time learning, and you will be well rewarded.

Scotland is one of the few places I really, really want to visit but never yet been able to. I would like to tour the countryside, far away from the bigger cities, and visit with the "common folk" (they tend to be more cheerful than the city folk!). Maybe 'way up north. Don't really know. I tend to prefer cloudy days anyway, so I think a holiday there will suit me. Someday.....

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.

I have to say, after researching and using some dristros as live systems from a USB, Mint was definitely the one for me (although all my friends that use Linux continue to say I should have chosen Ubuntu or one of it's flavours). Moving from Windows 10 to Mint has been a piece of cake so far and I love that any issues I've encountered when using the system have already been encountered by others and the internet is awash with advice and help.

linux-dummie, I grew up in the further regions of Scotland and moved to Glasgow back in 1999. I love going back up north to see my family (north east coast) and when I can, I love getting away into the hills and trails of the west coast.

It is my intention to learn and also take my time. I'm already working my way through a copy of the book Linux Mint Essentials by Jay LaCroix which I purchased after deciding that I really wanted to know what I was doing. I'm sure it will take a while as I still use Windows most of the time at work but I'm quite excited and look forward to the journey ahead.

I checked with my parish priest, and he told me that "using windows is not a sin"

Welcome to the family, and Happy Minting!

I really need to get to Scotland (my family is from there). Any can't-miss places for me to visit?
