SOLVED Install sigil in Mint 17?

Post by sadhu »

Using Synaptic in Mint 18 I installed a fairly new version of Sigil, the epub editor.

Is there any easy way to install it in Mint 17? It doesn't exist in the repos. As it happens, I'm running Sigil 7.4 under wine at present, but version 9.5 (I think it is) has more bells and whistles.

TYVM

FYI -- re the latest and greatest version of Sigil:

I run Windows 7 in VirtualBox, so I have installed Sigil-latest there. I really can't see much difference between Sigil versions 8 and 9, but then again I produce only very simple epubs. If I use all of the latest bells and whistles in HTML5, lots of epub readers wouldn't be able render them, anyway.

My epub needs are simple too. I use Moon+ Reader Pro app on my tablet and I like that it allows a bit of customization of my content -mostly minutes, notes etc.

Calibre is wonderful for converting LO or Word docs to epub but does not always render the toc and index the way I laid them out. Sigil works well for editing those epubs. I have to have a 'proper' toc or index for easy locating. This version of Sigil does what I need, so likewise, bells and whistles are overrated where I'm concerned.

Glad I installed it :).
