Lighten up. Adding an avatar probably took me about as long as you took out of your 'real life' to enlighten us with your unsolicited mini rant.lexon wrote:I have a real life outside of Mint. MInt is only a tool. Don't need an avatar.
Wish I could figure out how to stop a avatar from running. Reminds me of many sites now trying to get my attention with Gifs, videos, pop ups.

I don't have a real life but I hear him on the GIFs and things that flash at me. I see firefox has some add ons that are supposed to stop them but I'm not sure if they stop the avatars from flashing too.

True animated pics are annoying, but. GIF and a static avatar are completely different.GreenLynx wrote:I don't have a real life but I hear him on the GIFs and things that flash at me. I don't mind emoticons used in posts though.
I like static avatars for a forum as it brings a better sense of community and a personal feel to it.
GIF's on the other hand are annoying and distracting. Sorry @inkknife
Re: Don't be boring - add an avatar!
I don't see an obvious way how I would implement this. What I did do was update all members that used http for an avatar on imgur.com to use https instead. Anyway, shouldn't you be picking an avatar imageCosmo. wrote:Not a security risk, but a privacy / tracking risk. I made the suggestion to block avatars from not secured connections already half a year ago. Not only would it solve the risk, it would also show those users, who still http-connect their avatar, that they missed something.MintBean wrote:3) If there is a real security threat here, shouldn't the board be modified to enforce the https only rule, rather than word of mouth? I bet there are a ton of people on here with plain old http avatars.
Re: Don't be boring - add an avatar!
Most people download or create an avatar, and then upload it to a service like imgur.com, and link to it from there. Imgur supports HTTPS and does not require an account.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

You can press Escape to stop an animated GIF from running. If a certain avatar keeps annoying you, you can use ad add blocker to block the image and it won't bother you again.lexon wrote:Wish I could figure out how to stop a avatar from running.

Couldn't ask for a more helpful bunch of mods here. Going way beyond 'the call of duty.'

I made my avatar a few years back. I use it on a couple of forums such as this one. I made a few animated avatars and change whenever I get bored with them.
Re: Don't be boring - add an avatar!
This doesn't work for me. I tried it in both Firefox and Pale Moon.Moem wrote:

Re: Don't be boring - add an avatar!
In Firefox I use SuperStop. With this addon, I can stop all gif with Shift + ESC.
Re: Don't be boring - add an avatar!
Cool or annoying?
I'm always in two minds when it comes to animated avatars.

I would upload an avatar if I could upload it directly here like I can other forums. I don't like having to jump through so many hoops.
