Right now, the file manager is Nemo.
Maybe try PCManFM as default? I prefer it.

This applies to Linux Mint with Cinnamon desktop only.techboy317 wrote:Right now, the file manager is Nemo.
Linux Mint with Mate desktop uses Caja.
Linux Mint with xfce desktop uses Thunar.
Linux Mint with KDE desktop uses Konqueror.

Re: Default file manager
PCManFM is a fine file manager, but it's from LXDE and LXQt. Not of Cinnamon.
Note that it's almost impossible to change file managers in a desktop environment. In a very real sense, the file manager is the essence of the desktop environment. It's the backbone of the DE.

Not really. I have used PCManFM on almost ALL major DEs (and uninstalled the defaults)Note that it's almost impossible to change file managers in a desktop environment. In a very real sense, the file manager is the essence of the desktop environment. It's the backbone of the DE.
Includes GNOME, Xfce, Lxde, Lxqt, Cinnamon, MATE, etc.

OK, technically it's possible, you're right.... But it's almost impossible to do so without introducing weird bugs, inconsistencies and instabilities.techboy317 wrote:Not really. Re: Default file manager
True, but couldn't you "trick" cinnamon into thinking you are running Nemo, when you are actually running something else? Could they do that in the ISO?introducing weird bugs, inconsistencies and instabilities.

Re: Default file manager
If you need a second file manager, I can recommend Double Commander. It's available in the official software sources of Mint.
It's a stand-alone file manager that does not try to behave like the backbone of a desktop environment. So installing it does not create any problems.
Double Commander is very powerful, fast and has two panes by default (which is very useful). It looks a bit like Norton Commander (if that means anything to you).
You can install it like this:
