I just purchased a Canon Maxima MG3660 and tried to connect it to my Linux Mint PC. The printer connects via WiFi but of course there are no instructions for Linux
When I went to "Add Printer" I could not find the Printer so I tried finding it via the supplied MAC Address but although there are heaps of Canon models in the Data Base, this one of course is not included
Any ideas how I might get this connected to my Linux Mint PC via WiFi? (easy step by step would be appreciated, I have old-timers disease)
Thanks

Re: Canon Pixma MG3660
so Canon supply debian package drivers; Mint uses ubuntu; that uses debian; so all is good
go here http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/cont ... 90202.html and download cnijfilter2-5.20-1-deb.tar.gz and maybe also click the "yes, this was helpful" button at the bottom of the page ......
either use a terminal; or open your Downloads folder from the desktop:
terminal commands are
_____________
Canon provide ScanGearMP to run the scanner
get it from here http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/cont ... 90502.html and get scangearmp2-3.20-1-deb.tar.gz .....the structure of the commands are the same as above; shall I spell it all out .. happy to if needed
..... the key thing is to run it first off, type

Resolved: Canon Pixma MG3660
Thank you for your help, unfortunately following the fist part of your suggestions ended up with a error message "Could not detect the target printer"
I switched the power off & back on for the Printer and tried again, but still this error message
The WiFi light on the Printer is solid on
ADDIT
OK, I connected the Printer to my Router via a WIN PC and then tried to "Add Printer" again on my Mint PC, this time it found the Printer and the right version
Not sure if the Terminal commands you suggested also played a part, but I'm just happy to get it working
Thanks very much for you help

Simple Scan could not detect the Canon but I still have an out of ink HP Printer connected to the Network that I can use with that and Fax the occasional document

Re: Canon Pixma MG3660
glad the printer side is working;
you can use Simple Scan if you install ScanGearMP; it is a different programme: so if you install ScanGearMP, you need to test it works with in a terminal, and if it works, you can set up a shortcut: do you use Mate?

Re: Canon Pixma MG3660
Thanks again for your help, Ok, Step1 got the printer working so I thought I might as well try the next step for the Scanner
Yes I'm using Mate Mint 17.3
I downloaded the scangearmp2-3.20-1-deb.tar.gz file and followed you format for the first step eg "tar -xzvf scangearmp2-3.20-1-deb.tar.gz" ect
When I had finished, I tried the following Terminal Commands, both in a new Terminal & following "cd scangearmp2-3.20-1-deb"
scangear2 > OK from Preview it looks like those parameters are just to change the colour of the command in the Forum
scangear2
they produced error messages: "No such file or directory" or "Command not found"
So where do I go from here?
Thanks again for your support

Just reviewd all the commands again and noticed the deb file was scangearmp2, not scangear2, so I tried that as a Terminal Command and it brought up a Scanner for the Canon Printer which I was able to successfully use to scan a doc, could you show me how to create that short-cut?
Simple Scan however only see the original HP Printer and can't find the Canon Printer

Re: Canon Pixma MG3660
apologies for my error: well done to troubleshoot and sort it all!! good work
if you are using Mate, right-click on the bottom bar; select ADD TO PANEL; select the top offering: CUSTOM APPLICATION LAUNCHER: click the ADD button; name can be whatever you like: COMMAND must be .....which you successfully worked out!!! ....... and you can change the icons etc but that gives you a working shortcut ............... let us know how it goes .......
