A Problem with Green Images or Green Tint

Hello,

I have an issue were some pictures or symbols are displaying with either a green tint or have changed completely to green. It has happened to most of my photo's & graphical images, where a green tint dominates & spoils them.
In my browser, Firefox, there's a couple of issue's I've noticed, like the youtube logo is always displayed in green, & the gmail emotes all have a green tint too. The tint appears in photo's accross webpages as well as downloaded pics that are opened with picture viewer.

OS is Mint 17.3 Cinnamon

It might also be worth mentioning here incase it's related, that I hear the device disconnect sound effect at random to, so this is a couple of issue's that have appear around the same time recently.

This installation is around two years old & started with 17.0 & was upgrated to 17.3 a log time ago, so has been working fine.
Recently I decided to start installing level 3 updates, something I never used to do, so I wonder if that has cause the problems.

Sounds like a monitor issue rather than OS, or monitor connection (would also explain the sound).

Check its plugged in properly, or try another monitor (or external monitor in case of laptop).

I don't think it's the monitor because the images display ok when I set them as wallpaper. I also have a dual boot with Windows where everything is fine.

Unlikely to be a level 1, 2 or 3 update that would cause problems.

Can you open a terminal, type: inxi -Fxz
Hit Enter, copy the results and post it here. This will give us information about your system.

Also, which theme are you using? You could try changing it (I don't see why the wallpaper is not affected though).

I'm not a cinnamon user myself, so it someone else has any ideas?

The theme was Minty but I've reset it to default & the problem is still there.

I should also say that the device disconnect sound could be related to the optical drive which powers up but works only intermittently. I replaced it with an external drive & then forgot about it. I should probably disconnect it & see if that clears up that issue.

Open your Driver Manager (Menu > Administration > Driver Manager) and switch to the recommended xorg driver. Then reboot.

On starting Driver Manager I get this message:

"Failed to download repository information"

"Check your internet connection"

With the following details:

My internet connection is ok.

Still, I've been able to change to the recommended xorg driver & run the inxi -G command with these results:

You can blame Google for that error. They have discontinued support for 32 bit Chrome.

That should be better. The fglrx driver is no longer listed.

Ok, the green tint has cleared up, so it's good in that respect, however it's now running in software rendering mode, I'm limited to a resolution of 800x600, & in driver manager it's set to "continue using manually installed driver" & I can't change that.

I think you might see an improvement by switching to a different kernel. I have Radeon graphics also, and I have stable graphics with the 3.19.0-32 kernel in 17.3.
Open the Update Manager > View menu > Linux kernels > 3.19.0-32 > install > reboot

I've intalled that kernel, the recommended one, & driver manager has given me the option to select a driver again. I've gone with flgx because it served me well on the whole & it's my only reasonable option.

This has had an effect on the X server now though, which won't start, it says it's likely that it's not set up.

Is there a solution to this?

Thanks for that, x server is now working again & I have that new kernel however I'm back to having the green tint. So it seems my driver is corrupted? There are only three options in driver manager: the recommended river (which is no good), fglrx-updates, or fglrx.

So I'm back to square one.

The only thing I can suggest is that you try out 18.1 or the live version of 17.2 and 17.3
All 3 of those use a different xorg (graphics stack), so each will be different from your 17.0 upgraded to 17.3 (The in-place upgrade does not upgrade xorg.)
