Folks, am I doing something wrong when trying to install software? I have been using elementary OS and Ubuntu for about 3 years but I am new at Mint.
I want to install VMware. When I do a search in Synaptic, the name "VMware" is shown in the window on the left and 57 packages in the respective window on the right.
Do I really have to mark those 57 packages in order to get VMware installed??
I would expect to apply one command in order to have the app installed. Or should that be done in the terminal?

Re: VMware: How to install?
Vmware is a iicensed software. You will need to buy a license for Mint.

Re: VMware: How to install?
No.
Only for commercial use it has to be bought.
For private use "VMware Player" is free, it is offered for download on VMware`s own website. The same is the case for "VMware Converter".
In Ubuntu as well as other flavours like "elementary OS" which are built on top of Ubuntu similar the main edition of Mint, "VMware Player" is available in the respective official Software Center. I have privately used it for years.

Re: VMware: How to install?
What I do is download vmware workstation player from here. Then open a terminal and for example: (each line is a separate command)
Code: Select all
cd downloads
ls -al | grep VMware
chmod +x VMware-Player-12.5.1-4542065.x86_64.bundle
sudo ./VMware-Player-12.5.1-4542065.x86_64.bundle
