F.lux for Linux Mint

Hi Everyone,
I am new here and in Linux world as well. I was amazed when my friend who is a Linux Mint user said he does not have an antivirus nor has activated the firewall, so I recently install Linux Mint on my second computer and I really start to love it (although sometimes I am a bit confused with the update system).

Have you seen how old these packages are, I see 2009, 2010 and 2013. Not really recent stuff if you aks me, but since I don't know this program I could be very wrong.

There is a great alternative in the Software Manager: Redshift. Make sure that you also install the GUI for it: Redshift-GTK. Just search for 'redshift' and you'll find them both.

In the Software Manager I have found Redshift but there are 2 GUI for it, one is Redshift-GTK and the other one is GTK-Redshift. Is it the same thing?

They are the same.
gtk-redshift has been renamed to redshift-gtk.

Try typing 'Redshift' in the search box in your menu. You can also add it to the startup applications.

If you want more precise help, it would be useful if we knew which desktop environment you're using. In fact, it's always smart to state that in a question.

I did that but nothing came up...

I found 'Run redshift' in the menu but when I click on it nothing happens.
(Strangely it did not appear because I typed it in capital letters. That's weird!!!)

In order to make RedShift work, you'll have to make some kind of configuration-file.

Create an empty file ~/.config/redshift.conf (Open Nemo, select show hidden files, goto . config, right-click, create new file (name it redshift.conf)

Goto the redshift website : http://jonls.dk/redshift/ and copy the config-lines and paste them into your redshift.conf. Redshift returned some errors on
this config-file, so I'll give you mine.

Alter the latitude and longitude. Finding the latitude of your town is easy, just type latitude your-city-name in your browser.

Do you know if there is a way to control brightness using hotkeys?

Not in Redshift, no. Redshift changes the colour of your screen, not the brightness.

Other than that, I assume it depends on your hardware.
