Re: Slick Billy Inc is at it again.
just M$ still trying to lock End Users in their Win-10 system
BTW: seen a few more End Users "downgrading" to win-7.
The real issue, is that M$ just want to sell more PCs
ie: they won't allow an older system to be installed onto newer hardware.

I am not going to say there will be an Apple or Linux mass migration soon. But there are about to be alot of unhappy people who know what win10 is all about.

Most people are either too lazy or too ignorant to stand up for themselves, and will just go along with whatever is done. That's "the masses" for you.
Those who are informed have likely already made their move.
Beyond that, who really cares? We have more important things going on right now, like the government spying on every person.

Windows 10's file manager is now showing ads: https://thenextweb.com/apps/2017/03/10/ ... -them-off/
It would be sad if it didn't make me laugh so hard

Its almost like they are pushing, just to see how far they can push.
Re: Slick Billy Inc is at it again.
I read the comments and replaced Microsoft and Windows N with Canonical and Ubuntu in my mind.
Yeah, I watched Bryan Lunduke's "Last Linux Sucks" and his Mir, Unity, and Snap comment really got me thinking... to think that Stallman has been harping about something like this long before.

It's been happening since the 16th amendment was passed. FDR used to have Hoover's FBI dig up dirt on famous people and he would read them greedily like people watch soap operas today. The only difference is with everyone being connected it just makes it easier for the government. We have more important things going on right now, like the government spying on every person.
Re: Slick Billy Inc is at it again.
As for the thread topic, it sounds like Microsoft is just pulling an Apple. All Mac operating systems have a hardware life span; you can only run them on specific computers. The reverse is also true; newer Macs can't run older versions of OSX.
Microsoft is just jumping on the "We know what's best for you" bandwagon pioneered by Apple.

While I obviously cannot mention names, the company I work for is evidently giving a trial deployment (or maybe a more committed one, not sure, I'm nowhere near the IT folks) of LibreOffice on their new Windows 8.1 image, instead of MS Office. OTOH, they decided not to continue using Chrome and instead us MS Edge.
So, ya win some, ya lose some. But still, I'll take any bit of progress I can get.
