Remove VLC in Linux Mint 7 Gloria XFCE CE

Post by merlwiz79 »

VLC requires the qt4 library and adds a lot of space to the live cd.
I have not problems with mplayer and really don't use VLC.

I say kick it out!
Xfmedia would be great.
Keep it more true to the xfce desktop.
Why not include xfburn instead of brasero as well?
There seems to be some issues here and there about brasero not working properly, and xfburn has always worked flawlessly for me.

Even though I like and use VLC, I think that it should be a prime candidate for removal. I am a believer in a XFCE distro being as close to all XFCE centric as is practical. The same with KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox, etc.

Each of these desktops have their own strengths and weaknesses. When you start mixing desktop complements I fear that you wind up with the worst of all worlds rather than the best of all. Example: Add a couple KDE apps and Gnome app or two and you have destroyed the greatest benefits of a Fluxbox desktop.

Just my view point. :-)

Everytime I try Xfmedia it uses the incorrect screen size.
It takes for ever to find the actual video.
Brasero from ubuntu only has bugs.
I have been using it from removed and it works fine.
Also xfburn won't let me burn isos.

Might be that I use DVD-RWs for the Live CD.
Moving this Conversation to the main dev post.

Could be the DVD-RW's...
I will investigate further...
I saw a post on it at the Crunchbang forums...
