ugh. WIFI network panel icon gone

Post by emcy » Mon Mar 13, 2017 11:59 pm

HI,my computer needs help again. ugh! I was exploring what "login as a different user" app was.. and somehow.. when I tried it.. there were duplicate icons in my panel. I went back adn tried to get out of that new login even though it was the same login as the original user. so then I though I was out of it and I clicked on delete for the the duplicate icons for the internet connection icon. and it deleted both of them instea of just the one. ugh! Help! I cannot find teh application to add a new panel icon. Where did it go? I did a bunch of searches and nothing shows. I trie network menu, Wi Fi network. nothing.

Thanks for your help

Peace
EMCY

@ emcy

Go to >Menu >Preferences >Applets , and click on Network Manager to display the applet/icon.

I right clicked on the panel, it brought up the menu, i clicked on "panel" which brought up a sub menu, then I selected "panel preferences" and it brought up a window wherein I can add or remove items. I svrolled down, but network manager isnt in there.
It only shows
Whisker Menu (external)
Show Desktop
Launcher
Launcher
Places (external)
Windows Buttons
X Separator
Clock
Launcher
Launcher
Launcher
Launcher

I understand Network Manager probably ought to be her. But i didnt find it.

Do i neex to redownliad it from somewhere to reinstall?
If i click on firefox to open it, and send it a website, then, if It has connected to the internet, a window will pop up telling me that. But i would like to get the panel icon back cause it showed me if I was connected or not all the time and I could select which netwoek to connect to.
Thanks for your help

@ emcy

When you right-click on the panel, you should select "Add applets to the panel", then click on the "Network Manager".

I have linux rebecca.
I tried right clicking on the panel, it brings up a menu
With options...
Separator
Properties
Move
Remove
Panel

I clicked on panel
It brings up another menu....
Add new items
Panel preferences
Logout
Help
About

I clicked on add new items
It brings up a window with options....
Network manager is not on there

Nothing with the word "network" is shown

Could someone please help me figure out where it went?

When i click to open firefox and go to a website.. i will automatically get a little window that pops open in the top right to tell me Im connected. Or a bigger window in the center opens that asks me to input my password if its having trouble connecting.
So I am guessing that means the network manager is,still on my drive and functional, just not visible in the panel options nor my settings page nor my preferences page nor my system folder. Where could it be hiding?

I found network, and network connections, but not the network manager
Thanks
B

What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? If you don't know open a terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

inxi -Sz
Paste the output here.

Add the "notification area" to your panel. That's what holds the volume and networking icons. You can also use terminal and run

Code: Select all

nm-applet
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....

Hi, ok... i realize its, been 7 months since i am responding.... yes, I got busy with work and decided to use a different computer till i can figure out this issue.

I opened terminal and typed in inxi-Sz
I recvd this response:
System: Host:Barb. Kernel: 3.13.0-37-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: Xfce 4.11.8 Distro: Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca

Then I typed in nm-applet and hit enter
...but nothing happened.

I did a search for nm-applet and it comes up. When I click on it, nothing happens.
Now what? Ideas please?
Thanks

Add the "notification area" to your panel.
^^ This. Mint 19 (Mate). nm-applet I have, but nothing happened when I executed it.

This issue drove me crazy with Mint 18, and now again with Mint 19 (I had forgot how I solved it a year ago).
