i will start with the basics :
Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64 bit.
version 3.2.7
Kernel version 4.4.0-53-generic
AMD Phenom II x4 820 processor x 4
Two HD's , windows drive 1000Gb and a 500Gb drive for Mint. Grub handles the boot loading with no issues
ATI Radeon HD 4200 VGA controller
NEED to upgrade the video card soon...but found that Mint did not have an issue with my gfx card as with Debian i had to dig around and install the ATI drivers to get my games to run. with Mint my games ran with not fps issues ! im impressed ....
I had a laptop with Debian for a few years but it developed some issues and stoped working . When i got this desktop it had windows 10 so i made do for a few months while i decided to add a HD or split the drive with another install of linux. I have a friend who suggested Mint over Debian and said i should give it a try.
I added a HD and was surprised at how easy the install went with Mint. I have over all loved the look and feel of Mint so far (about 3 days) but still cant find things yet <laughs> . id like to start learning Python and re-learn some Bash scripting (i forget things sometimes) . looking forward to helping when i can and getting advice as well. I want to be a part of the community , not just a leach looking for answers. Mint looks good, glad i tried it <smiles>

The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place.

Welcome! This should be a good one for learning python, saw it mentioned in the forums: https://learnpythonthehardway.org/book/charvey wrote:........... id like to start learning Python and re-learn some Bash scripting (i forget things sometimes) . looking forward to helping when i can and getting advice as well. Re: Hello !
If your in the market for a GPU, I cannot stress enough to go Nvidia this time around. Drivers matter, and AMD is dropping the ball. The 10 series Nvidia performs better and uses less power than AMD's current RX cards.
