Long time no see

Post by timapple »

So according to the forums, last time I was here was around 2014. I thought it warranted a new intro. Either way I heard Matt Hartley and Bryan Lunduke giving some anti-mint banter recently and it inspired me to check mint out again. To say the least I am pleased. I am really enjoying it so far. There are some awesome applets in cinnamon now! It has become really, really useful. Only complaint I have so far is the age of packages, mainly openshot. But I may just hang around for awhile. With the publicity from the last year, maybe a security section in the forums would be cool. I am a budding infosec enthusiast (by no means professional) and wouldn't mind chatting up the topic and topics relevant to it. Either way, thats enough babbling. See ya'll around.

Cheers,
Tim

welcome back
:D

you will see a few changes, since your last visit.

do remember that the LinuxMint project is based on an conservative approach,
and as such, the software in the repository is not always the latest release.

Welcome back. What was the anti-mint banter, out of interest?

It was from one of the Lunduke hours..maybe 2 or 3 weeks old. Note: They didn't say anything absolutely negative. Just that in no way it was a distro either of them would use.

Did they give any reasons why?

Welcome to the Mint family forums.

Most problems already have a fix
search
read
ask
If you need to ask please copy and paste the result of terminal code inxi -Fnx with your question
And take your time to avoid disappointment.

remember Mint is designed to be a stable as possible, the boys in the band check stability of the repositories to that end, the consequence is that applications may not be cutting edge.

Not really, they just don't agree to mints practices..I would assume release cycles and patching.
