when I click on the live cam, mplayer opens but stops abruptly and doesn't restart. can anyone fix this? using mint 4

There's something strange going on with the live cam - can't get it to work either
Probably not a flash problem anyway
I tried in Totem too and I found out that there is some redirect to
mms://adams.wm-live.abacast.com/commonwealthofpa-live7-300'.
and I suspect that the URL is cut off - there should be some file suffix I think (aspx as earlier or htm or whatnot)

thanks. I've has similar problems with mplayer at other sites. how can I prevent mplayer opening, so I can try VLC?

You have to edit "Applications" in the Firefox preferences out mplayer in VLC
