Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

Post by wedjlok »

The Synaptics touchpad on my Toshiba Satellite C855-S5194 just recently stopped working, and I cannot find a solution. I have looked over past posts and also tried to blacklist as others have suggested on other forums and it is still not working. I'm pretty sure it simply happened after some update, but just not sure which/what update did it. I do use a mouse most times, but it would be nice to know why the touchpad stopped working, and how to fix it.

The device shows up when I run cat/proc/bus/input/devices:

Code: Select all

I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1
N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input5
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse1 event7
B: PROP=9
B: EV=b
B: KEY=6420 30000 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=260800011000003
and also appears on any mouse/touchpad device list setting, but is simply not responding.

Here's also my inxi -Fxzd output:

In Cinnamon, we have an applet for Mouse & TouchPad settings. Don't know if you have that in Xfce? Might help to check it out.

Yes, it's there, and shows the touchpad. Even when I enable it, though, it doesn't work. Same goes for in LXDE.
