Doing a site-specific search for 'dummy output' turns up a lot of hits, many of which have not been solved. One was solved by upgrading the BIOS, and another by upgrading the kernel. Wish I had better news for you.

Hi, Aliov,

I have had the same problem on a friends Mint18.2. This occurred after a kernel update of the 4.4 series. Switching back to the one before the latest 4.4 kernel cured the problem.

This is something you might find worth trying, clearly there is a some sort of bug in the latest 4.4 kernel and it may well have been duplicated in the 4.10.0-37 kernel that you are using.

Swapping the kernel was very easy on my friends PC as it was set up to allow viewing and selection of kernels via GRUB at startup.

However, you have to set up GRUB to do this. A step by step procedure can be found in topic;-

See viewtopic viewtopic.php f=46&t=234575&p=1247011#p1247011

It's covers other things but will point you in the right direction of how to swap kernels with ease. There is one catch though it assumes you are not dual booting Microsoft & Linux.

If a version of the 4.4 kernel works for you, then this is a stable and supported kernel until April 2021.

Hope this helps a bit.
