TP Link Archer T9UH
New to Mint, about 4 days. Installed on an older remote desktop with WIFI service only. Moved the PC to hardwire for internet and downloaded updates. My problem is no wifi at all. Downloaded a beta driver from TP Link site and extracted, that's as far as I got. Searched the forum for solutions as far as using the terminal but nothing specific to the TP LInk archer T9UH wireless adaptor.

Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
Try plugging the device into a different USB port and run the
lsusb
command againRe: TP Link Archer T9UH
So I decided to install the desktop back to it's permanent location and run 50' of internet cable to it. This way all the peripherals will be plugged in. Everything running well with the exception of wifi. Plugged usb cable of adapter into different port and lsusb as follows.

Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
This driver should work
Reboot
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install git build-essential
git clone https://github.com/diederikdehaas/rtl8814AU.git
cd rtl8814AU
make
sudo make install
Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
Well it looked promising when the terminal was installing the driver but no adapter light after reboot. lsusb still looks the same

Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
Do you have Secure Boot enabled in BIOS?
Try
If it says required key not available, disable Secure Boot
Try
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe -v 8814au.ko
Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
modprobe: FATAL: Module 8814au.ko not found in directory /lib/modules/4.8.0-53-generic
Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
How about results for
Code: Select all
ls ~/rtl8814AU | grep ko
Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
ls: cannot access '/home/dean/rtl8814AU': No such file or directory
checked anyway and NO secure boot enabled in bios

Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
That is the driver I unpacked from the TP Link site. I couldn't get it to install though.
Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
So if I right click that folder and open in terminal is there a command to install it?
Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
I would use the Linux Mint Update Manager to install the newest 4.4 kernel, then use the Grub menu at boot to boot into the 4.4 kernel, then
Reboot and use Grub menu to reboot into the 4.4 kernel
Code: Select all
cd rtl8814AU
make clean
make
sudo make install
Re: TP Link Archer T9UH
So the 4.4 kernel wasn't listed in my update manager but found the instructions on this web page https://mintguide.org/system/561-instal ... -mint.html
ran the process and this is where I'm at here
uname -r
4.4.4-040404-generic
