I have an usb interface that at some time I use to listen to music through external speakers.
I would like to switch between internal audio and the usb interface but I see that the audio application doesn't work most of the times (but sometimes it works but I cannot revert when finished listening):
the audio output is not changed when I switch. I have the last Mint release (Mate version)
What is the solution? Thanks in advance

Have you installed pavucontrol? After installation it will show up in your Menu as PulseAudio Volume Control. It will allow you to do a lot of stuff with your audio that may not be available in whatever audio applications you have. It's usually helpful to post the name of the program you are using when asking questions. "the audio application" doesn't tell us much.

The application is the audio settings application, it looks like very similar to pavucontrol, maybe it's that.
I see that if an application is playing during the switching operation it stays on the old output device; for example I have to close the chrome tab that's playing and then reopen it to redirect its output to the new source. It is not what I need usually.
I remember a useful utility/applet on Ubuntu (volume-mixer?) that has not to be called every time and is more simple when used as a control volume: it allowed me to switch between the output devices and set individual volumes. Is it possible to have it on Mint Mate too without screwing the system?
