External power detection problem (power management)

Post by riseman »

Hi!
I have a problem with linux mint cinnamon 17.2 power management on my laptop Acer c720.

I have this settings:

Screensaver:
- screen locker
- lock the computer when put to sleen - ON
- lock the computer when the screen turns off - OFF
- lock the computer when inactive - NEVER

Power Management main:
- Turn off screen when inactive for - NEVER(AC) / 10 min.(battery)
- Suspend when inactive for - NEVER(AC) / 30 min.(battery)
- When the lid closed - Do nothing in both cases

Power Management brightness:
- On battery, dim screen when inactive - ON
- Brightness level when inactive - 5%
- Dim screen after inactive for - 2min.

I have a strange laptop's behavior with these settings.

Examples:

1) the laptop is turned off and external power is not connected.
2) Switching on, logging in, connecting external power.
3) waiting
4) Screen NOT dimming after 2 minutes of inactivity, but display is turned off after 10 minutes and suspend after 30 minutes.

1) the laptop is turned off and external power is connected
2) Switching on, logging in, disconnecting external power
3) waiting
4) Screen dimming after 2 minutes of inactivity, but display does not turned off after 10 minutes and laptop does not go to suspend.

BUT
if we add one step between 2 and 3:
2.5) - open menu -> system settings -> power management. Close power management.
then all working like it should.

So it seems like some part of the power manager, that controls screen power and suspend of the laptop, does not detect changes of external power status.
Part of the power manager that control screen dimming - working OK.

Tested on Lenovo Thinkpad x201 - the same behavior.
Does somebody faced this behavior too?

Two years later it's me again :)
This problem is still present in 18.2 release.
It is very annoying for me.

Fortunately, It seems that I have found some kind of solution.
You need to write something in dconf org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power each time when power source have been changed.
After this operation system recognizes the new power source.
I've made more detailed description here https://koshka.ddns.net/?p=673
