[Solved] Dropbox still an issue in 18.3 startup

Post by catch22 »

For several releases now Dropbox always needed workarounds for startup.
It looks like in 18.3 it still is an issue?
Simply adding Dropbox in the StartUp Applications still doesn't work - after every reboot it's gone again :|

Putting

Code: Select all

~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd
preferably with the full path instead of "~" may work.

On a clean install of LM 18.3 cinnamon edition, dropbox works as expected for me. I used the dropbox package from the software manager. It shows version 40.4.46. Only problem was the icon on my hiDPI screen which I replaced with a bigger one and it scales properly. (I know I am not helping you, I just thought I will leave my findings in case people think dropbox does not work in LM for everyone)

Do you mean replacing the command

Code: Select all

dropbox start -i
or, something else that I don't follow, I guess..?

How strange i have the exact opposite problem: i can't remove dropbox from start up. I do, but when dropbox is launched, it gets into start up aplications again.
I'm using LM 18.3 XFCE.

Putting

Code: Select all

/home/ludo/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd
in Start Up Applications as custom command didn't work.
On reboot it has disappeared from Start Up Applications.

I use

Code: Select all

dropbox stop
followed by

Code: Select all

dropbox start -i
then it will be good for a while.

Only if you don't ever reboot.. :|
I need it to stick and work at startup.

Go to Startup Applications and see if Dropbox is installed. Click on Dropbox, then Edit. Make sure the Command is

Code: Select all

dropbox start-i
Then put the Startup delay to 5, 10 or 15 and press Save. Reboot and see what happens!

What happens is exactly the problem.. it's gone every time.

I have using Mint 18.3 but mate version
So I don<'t have the time delay option as in CINAMON

The commande is dropbox start -i
Can I add something to that to delay ? as the GUI do not allow to put a delay value in seconds ?

Sorry for the late reaction.
I removed dropbox, nemo-dropbox and libnet-dropbox-api-perl (which insisted on uninstalling shutter) via synaptic and after that re-installed dropbox, nemo-dropbox plus shutter, which re-installed libnet-dropbox-api-perl.
Issue is solved now - dropbox starts up with the OS :-)
aaaargh.. after another reboot the problem is back again - no sign of the dropbox icon in start up applications!

To be more precise about what I did:
- removed dropbox, nemo-dropbox and libnet-dropbox-api-perl
- re-installed dropbox and nemo-dropbox, added dropbox in startup applications (delay 9 seconds)
- rebooted and all was good; dropbox icon appeared in the panel
- re-installed shutter (it included libnet-dropbox-api-perl)
- rebooted and dropbox didn't start

DropBox won't stay running. See below when I attempt to stop DropBox and then start it. Is this a DropBox problem or a Linux Mint 18.3 problem?

Code: Select all

Once again
- removed dropbox and also shutter (screenshot application)
- re-installed dropbox and nemo-dropbox, added dropbox in startup applications
- rebooted and all is good; dropbox icon appears in the panel

So the hick-up may have been shutter being incompatible and interfering somehow?
Anyway - very glad it is finally solved!
