What does "cannot type my password" precisely mean?
Re: Cannot login as user
@Cosmo I cannot type anything in the password field.
Re: Cannot login as user
So, no dots appear there, if you type; correct?
When did this problem start to happen?
Does the system react, if you try to switch to a virtual console? Try it with ctrl-alt-F1. If this works, you can go back with alt-left.
Does the system react in the login screen on mouse clicks?
Not to forget: What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment?

"The latest version" is not a precise answer. It could be, that you mean 18.3, but do you have an imagination, how often users user an older version (of whatever software" and only believed, that this is the latest? So number please. Besides that, your answer does not tell anything about the desktop environment. If you don't know open a terminal and enter:
Paste the output here.
Next thing we need to know is, whether this "latest" Mint is a fresh install or if it had been upgraded from a previous version, from which in this cases (and please no "second last").
Also my question, when the problem did start is not answered by you.
What you don't answer, cannot get handled here. I don't use any crystal ball.
