Re: no sound on gateway lappy
There are some systems that have difficulties with sound, and I don't know if yours is one, but the most common problem is to have some channel muted that you don't know about. Alsamixer is the way to check this. Open a terminal and type 'alsamixer' (no need to use sudo). I think it is installed by default in Mint, but if you don't have it then go into synaptic and get it.
Use the left/right arrow keys on your keyboard to move around and look for any channel that has 'MM' beneath it. This means it is muted. Press the 'm' key to unmute it and use the up/down arrow keys to increase the volume level. Press 'Esc' to exit alsamixer.
Hope that works for you.

I see nothing with "MM" on it , I launched the termanial window as you suggested and it looks normal it shows "pulse audieo" next to each device

and this is helpful how again ? If your going to post a negitive reply at least expand on why you dislike KDE instead of some responce that is as informative as a brick wallviking777 wrote:KDE4?
I would rather have no sound.

It wasn't meant to be helpful, it was just a statement of fact. It would have been very difficult to help you at the stage I posted it since you already stated that your issue was 'fixed'.brothergc wrote:and this is helpful how again ? Anyway as it is your thread, I apologise if you took exception to my post.
