Post by Rupertt »

Hi,

i just tried to boot my Linuxmint 17.1 and it stops at the linuxmint Logo.
I can open the bash, when I start the mdm by hand i get into cinamon, but it reports that im running in software only mode.
Below you see my xorg.log, can I post any other logs?

Re: Linuxmint wont start Window Manager

Post by thx-1138 »

1)...can you try?...

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure mdm
2) By the way, there also exists another glitch above:
[ 263.726] Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-37-generic root=UUID=e2b31ad6-3fa1-4c1f-ab80-84676abaff90 ro quiet splash nomdmonddf nomdmonisw nomdmonddf nomdmonisw nomdmonddf nomdmonisw vt.handoff=7
Those should not have been there that many times...see here & here.

3)Post the output from inxi -Fxz as well, for people around to know what they're dealing with...

The duplicates can safely be removed, however i'm not exactly certain as to when & how they get to re-appear / added twice or thrice back in grub's parameters. Besides #1291434 above, there exists another bug report about it with possible workarounds for it to not happen again, #1318351 namely...

Did reconfiguring mdm fixed at least the "stop at linuxmint logo" part of the problem?

For Cinnamon's fallback into software rendering mode, someone familiar with Cinnamon's internals should comment on...
