Hi,
Today I have been using a live LMDE USB stick and have made a number of modifications.
I would like to know if I can conserve these changes using the USB image writer option, so that next time I don't need to install anything.

It sounds like what you want is referred to as USB with persistence. I know for sure it can be done with the standard Ubuntu version. I don't see any reason for it to be a problem on LMDE2 but it is possible there are issues. You can probably find a thread on the forum explaining how to accomplish it.
