Desktop icons won't open

Post by Mac291 »

Dislike being a noob here but I've searched and read.... Installed 18.3 (32b) on an old dell Latitude D510 (w/2GB ram, a 40GB drive) but I can't get computer icon or folder icon to open. Do I need to config some user security first? Not sure what to do.

Appreciate any help. Going to use the laptop to practice commands & switch over, so to speak.

Thank you,

Mac

Which desktop environment did you pick? Such as XFCE and GNOME.

When I load Mint the bottom panel is so small I can not see it but it is there. Click the windows logo on the keyboard to view the menu panel. Put the cursor at the bottom and right click to view the pop up and then resize it in panel settings.

I think you should create your own thread for this issue you're having.

@Mac291:
What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? If you don't know open a terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

inxi -Sz
Paste the output here.

You need to give this information for every help request in every thread.
Do not forget this in the future.

Are it only teh mentioned folders, which do not react? What about the menu, the terminal, the browser?

Apologies to everyone. I was actually not installed yet, and also issues w/previous install that crashed upon the 'installing 3rd party' bit.
I using Cinnamon. Working ok, just slow on this old machine.

Thank you,

Mac
