Graphics issues on Laptop HP 15-ba007cl

Post by KRFlora »

I've recently gotten ahold of an HP 15-ba007cl laptop. Came with W10 preinstalled but immediately made the switch to Mint (18.3 Cinnamon) once I found out it was compatible with it.
Specs aren't bad, namely:
-AMD A12-9700P APU w/10 Cores
-Integrated Radeon R7 Graphics (sadly the system doesn't specify)
-8GB RAM

Still, for some reason I see some graphical issues. My current browser is the latest version of Vivaldi (1.14.1077.60 (Stable channel) (64 bits)), and while it shouldn't have any problems running 60fps videos or even playing a dumb browser game (Granblue Fantasy): for some reason animations slow down and video footage looks cut at times. Prior to Mint, I installed W7 and none of these problems occured, yet for some reason not all USB ports worked or even had trouble with the wireless/Ethernet drivers.
I'm only currently using the drivers provided by the system/driver updater (with AMD microcode on) as AMDGPU-PRO does not work on 18.3, and there seem to be no alternatives.

Is there any possible solution to my problems?
I apologize if this post doesn't belong in this section of the forum.

Thanks, this is useful! (I have to admit that I forgot to put in the space and that the terminal actually distinguishes capital letters)

What came up is this:

Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Carrizo
Display Server: X.Org 1.18.4 drivers: amdgpu (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)
Resolution: 1366x768@60.02hz
GLX Renderer: AMD CARRIZO (DRM 3.18.0 / 4.13.0-37-generic, LLVM 5.0.0)
GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 17.2.8

try this one: https://cubethethird.wordpress.com/2016 ... on-ubuntu/

used the bottom one:

Code: Select all

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Radeon"
    Driver "radeon"
    Option "TearFree" "on"
    Option "DRI" "3"
    Option "AccelMethod" "glamor"
EndSection

I tried this out but it didn't seem to work.

You're using the right driver for an AMD carrizo card. The amdgpu-pro driver is actually available for 18.3 but that's not the right driver for thay card and installing amdgpu-pro would break the video. See:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AMDGPU-Driver

You should give up more complete system info ... you should post it every thread. Copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Some users, since Meltdown, have been installing kernels too new for their hardware. That report will show more.

Thanks, I apologize for the lack of info. I'm not really too used to the appropriate command lines and stuff. Here's what showed up with that command.
