I read this thread and thought to myself confused is this from Microsoft. I have never had any problems logging into any account, bank or whatever, because all it is, is log in details which remain the same across all platforms. Can't speak for other Linux, but the transition from windows to Mint never caused me any problems at all. If people want to stick with Windows then fair enough, but they will be forced into using the Edge Browser even if the have another installed. Me? Well thanks and all that I'll be sticking with Mint and continuing not having problems logging in and not being forced into having to use anything I don't want to.

I had problems logging into the online scheduling application for a former employer. This application was and Oracle "solution" and it was what the worker bees would use to view/print work schedules for the week, request time off, etc.

I do not know the current condition of the site, but at the time the login screen only recognized/supported WinXP to Win10 (except for Vista), Android and iOS devices, and Oracle Enterprise Linux. OS/X was not supported, WinXP was well past EOL, and OEL had not been OEL for like a jillion years. The usual tricks like assigning a User Agent did not work.

In this case the former employer was entirely to blame. Even worse, it refused to recognize there was a problem, it showed absolutely no concern the problem had an impact on its employees, and the solution to a problem it refused to recognize was to "use office computer set up for employee use." To complete the circle, the "employee computer" at my location ran ... Windows Vista.

I discovered by accident a way to login to the application without using the default log in screen. The application would throw out errors and present a different log in screen.

The only login issue I've had so far was when trying to use the WiFi at one of the pubs in a nearby residential area, whose WiFi was operated by Arqiva WiFi (now bought by Virgin Media). These so-called WiFi hotspot specialists only supported Windows, Mac/iOS and Android; NO login options for Linux users. Will have to see if VM have fixed the issue next time I'm in the area.

all you have to do is install User-Agent Switcher and have it report Win10

In the first place, there must be worker solidarity, in this situation as well as the workplaces of all companies around the world. Failure to have that ultimately results in either deliberate or accidental worker exploitation.

So, assuming you could have solidarity, the thing to do would be for everyone to just send email requests to the appropriate higher-up for every single one of these tasks, every single time such a task needed to be performed. Inasmuch as the company in question here showed blind indifference to the problem and the impact it had on the workforce, the workforce should have reciprocated by showing blind indifference to complaints coming from higher-level management. If the company decided to reprimand and ultimately terminate the staff for their unyielding non-compliance, then so much the better, because it would shut the company down, and the workforce would then have the incentive (likely beginning prior to the point of termination) to find jobs at better companies.

Again, I must emphasize this is only possible if there is solidarity amongst the workforce.

The shortcomings linux have makes me use the desktop computer with win10 for the most part....
I replaced win 10 with Mint several months ago and so far haven't found a single thing that I used to do with windows but can't do with Mint

LinuxMintNorge wrote: Mon Mar 05, 2018 5:52 pm But let me explain what "bank id is.

If I have to access my pages at the Swedish Tax Office, I have to login with bank ID. In order to use Bank ID on a computer, i must log in to my bank and host a new Bank ID on file via a wizard. Once you have organized a new bank ID, i must set up an application in Win10 that automatically launches "Bank ID program" when logging in to pages that require exactly this. To access my patient page 1177 in Sweden, I have to login with this system.
in this Country the Fed Gov't has introduced an similar system,
in order to ensure it's Citizen's Tax Compliance, amongst other areas,,
& that works perfectly with LinuxMint and has no need for any win-10 requirements.

however, in the recent past, there was a distinct need for the use of an Windows System,
but that same Fed Gov't then spent 10s of Millions on a iMac conversion,
and then came out with a Browser based version, that would work on any system.

until then, however - - I'd spent some effort in getting that Windows System working under ./wine instead.
- and did have some success with that method.

1. It does not support my Soundblaster z sound card.
2. It does not support bank time on file.
3. It does not automatically support usb3
1. You mean the producer of that sound card doesn't write drivers for Linux. Don't blame Linux for that. Instead of the regular Realtek HD Audio driver I use ALSA driver for Linux (installed via Synaptic) in combination with PA Equalizer and the sound is simply amazing! So there's probably an alternative for you on the matter and ALSA could be it.
2. Idk what that is.
3. Bullsh*t! I've never installed any driver for USB3.0 and yet all of my blue USB ports work flawlessly! Not a laptop here, just a regular PC.
Unlike Windows where I had to install driver for them, otherwise no USB3.0.

Linux isn't for everyone. You need to be willing to "look under the hood" and many users aren't. I don't have any Windows anymore and have no desire to return to it, but I don't push it on people.

Every time I see a thread like this users, largely newbies, pile on to say the OP doesn't know what he or she is talking about. Well, here are a couple of things from someone who does (he pretty much invented Gnome):

I used to have my taxes prepared using H&R Block and other online services. But I keep on discovering errors which caused me to lose big on refunds. So I have decided to do the tax computations myself ever since.

The Australian Tax office has their own Browser based Taxation software (IIRC - haven't done tax in about 10 years) which, I found to be far superior to anything a tax agent could do for personal income tax. Businesses and the like are probably better off using an accountant.

Last night at my local, I opened my Acer netbook and pressed a key to wake it up. Within seconds it had automatically connected to the Pub WiFi; all I needed to do was visit the Pub's homepage and had a working connection. No fuss, no messing about.

A mate arrived a few minutes later and opened his little Windows 10 machine, one of those neat-looking things with a thin keyboard and around 8 inch high resolution screen. Touch screen though, ugh. :| Anyway, nothing he did could get it to connect even using the steps I took to resolve previous login issues on mine. Just would not connect to the Pub's homepage. He's been having this issue on and off for a while .. and needs it for administration, so he was very frustrated.

His phone connected straight away, using the same browser, set up the same way, but he could not get the computer to work. I did suggest using that as a hotspot so he could relay the WiFi to the computer but not knowing about those phones couldn't really help. :(

In the meantime I'd installed a couple of weeks' backlog of updates, restarted a couple of times and connected straight away even without opening the browser (used the CLI Python speed test) & gotten various other tasks done. My mate gave up and put his away. Next time I see him I'll ask what model it is, to see if Linux is a viable option.

I want to thank you for posting that. I finally had enough of Creative over 10 years ago after buying an X-Fi card that they "promised" they'd develop Linux drivers for.
For me, they are probably tied with Sony, as companies that have utter contempt for their customers...Linux users or otherwise.
